PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Currently on a seven-game Western Conference road trip, the Philadelphia 76ers activated rookie
guard Speedy Claxton from the injured list Friday.
Claxton was placed on the injured list after spraining his left ankle in the second quarter of a 92-83 road loss to the Memphis Grizzlies. The 76ers split eight games during Claxton's absence, including the first two on their current trek.
A first-round pick in 2000, Claxton missed all of last season with a knee injury. In 19 games, he is averaging 8.7 points and 3.4 assists.
Plagued by injuries to key players this season, Philadelphia (12-16) is tied for fifth place in the Atlantic Division. The Sixers opened the season with five straight losses without
reigning NBA Most Valuable Player Allen Iverson, who underwent elbow surgery in the offseason.
Point guard Eric Snow has played just seven games after injuring his left thumb in a preseason game. He underwent surgery on Oct. 23, having a plate, two pins and five screws inserted
into the thumb. Last season's Sixth Man of the Year Aaron McKie and forward Derrick Coleman have also missed time due to injuries.
