WASHINGTON, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Mike Sweetney scored 25 points and Wesley Wilson added 22 as No. 16 Georgetown captured its eighth straight win Monday night with a 99-80 triumph over Howard.
Sweetney shot 8-of-14 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line.
Kevin Braswell contributed 21 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Hoyas (9-1), who are 3-0 all time against their crosstown rival.
Trailing 8-0, Howard (5-5) responded with a 14-2 run to take the lead early in the first half.
At 4:54, Kyle Williams gave Howard a nine-point lead, prompting Hoyas coach Craig Esherich to call timeout. Georgetown followed with a 15-0 run, highlighted by two Braswell 3-pointers, and took a 41-35 lead into the locker room.
Howard came within four points in the second half. But the Hoyas rallied for a 9-0 run to seal the win.
Aki Thomas shot 8-of-13 from the field and sank all six free throws to lead the Bison with 23 points.
Howard's Ron Williamson, who scored 41 points and had 11 3-pointers against the Hoyas last season, was held to just 14 points and was 2-of-5 from 3-point range.
