Vancouver 3, Detroit 0

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- Dan Cloutier made 16 saves for his second shutout in as many starts and Todd Bertuzzi scored two goals Saturday night as the Vancouver Canucks snapped an 18-game winless streak against the Detroit Red Wings with a 3-0 victory.

Cloutier stopped five shots in the first and second periods and six in the third for his fifth shutout of 2001-02. He is one shy of tying the franchise record for most shutouts in a season.

The 25-year-old registered a 1-0 whitewash Wednesday against Anaheim.

Bertuzzi scored the only goal Cloutier needed at 7:23 of the second period. Bertuzzi broke out with Matt Cooke on a two on one and one-timed a pass from the edge of the right faceoff circle past goaltender Dominik Hasek.

Bertuzzi scored an empty-net goal with 54 seconds left to seal the win.

Markus Naslund also scored for the Canucks, who had not beaten the Red Wings on home ice since a 7-4 win on Dec. 20, 1996.

The Red Wings failed to take advantage of four power plays. Over its last six games, Detroit is just one for 21 with the man advantage.
