Ottawa 6, Phoenix 0

OTTAWA, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Martin Havlat recorded his second career hat trick and Patrick Lalime notched an easy shutout Thursday night as the Ottawa Senators cruised to a 6-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes, which saw their road winless streak reach eight games.

Ottawa has become one of the best home teams in the NHL and improved to 9-1-2 in its last 12 games at the Corel Centre on the strength of its offense and the inept attack of the Coyotes.

Havlat scored twice in the first period and added his 14th of the season in the third for his first hat trick of the season. He recorded a hat trick against Atlanta as a rookie on March 14.

Mike Fisher tallied twice in the third period and had an assist on Ivan Ciernik's goal in the first for his first three-point game of the season.

Lalime was rarely challenged en route to his fourth shutout of the season and 17th career. He needed to make just 18 saves.

The Coyotes registered just one shot in the first period and finished with a season-low 18.

Sean Burke made 33 saves in his worst performance of the season for Phoenix, which completed a 0-2-2 road trip and fell to 0-5-2-1 in its last eight road games.
