BALTIMORE, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Safety Rod Woodson intercepted a pass by the beleaguered Peyton Manning with 1:34 to play Sunday and returned it 47 yards for a touchdown that wrapped up a 39-27 victory for the Baltimore Ravens over the Indianapolis Colts.
Following last week's loss to San Francisco, 66-year-old Indianapolis coach Jim Mora exploded after watching his team commit five turnovers, including four interceptions.
On Sunday, the Colts turned the ball over four more times, with three of the miscues leading to 13 points for Baltimore. Manning made the final mistake late in the fourth quarter.
Taking over from his own 26 with his team trailing by five, Manning had his pass intended for Marvin Harrison over the middle intercepted by Woodson, who raced untouched to the end zone to seal the victory.
It was Woodson's 10th career return for a touchdown, breaking Kenny Houston's NFL record.
"He threw it right to me and I just took it to the end zone," Woodson said. "I really haven't thought about the record. I'm just glad we got the win. It was sloppy but it was a win."
Afterward, Mora praised his star quarterback.
"Peyton played well. I was very surprised by him," Mora said. "He started doing better in the second half and scored some points."
Manning, who was critical of his coaches' comments following the loss to San Franciso, said that had no bearing Sunday.
"We sat down on Thursday but it was a closed-door (meeting) between me and him," Manning said. "I have a lot of respect for him and he has a lot for me. It's been put to rest and wasn't a distraction today."
Meanwhile, Manning continued to struggle. It was his 17th interception this season and sixth that was returned for a touchdown. He finished 27 of 48 for 310 yards and two touchdowns.
"We got beat and the numbers don't really matter," Manning said. "It's the kind of theme we had all year which is we haven't played well on both sides of the ball at the same time. There's no fun to lose. We certainly prepared to come in here but we didn't make it happen."
Among the favorites in the AFC this season, the Colts (4-7) have lost four straight and fallen three games under the .500 mark.
"I was proud of our team this afternoon," Mora said. "We played as hard as we could play. The turnovers hurt us. We fought them to the nail but we came up a little short."
Indianapolis lost for the second time in as many visits to Baltimore since abandoning the city in March 1984. Baltimore had been home to the Colts from 1946-1983 and boasted one of the NFL's proudest traditions, but was without a pro football team until 1996, when Art Modell relocated the Cleveland Browns.
Elvis Grbac passed for two touchdowns and Moe Williams rushed for 111 yards for Baltimore (8-4), which has won five of six to remain 1 1/2 games behind Pittsburgh (9-2) in the AFC Central.
After the teams traded field goals in the opening quarter, things started to get interesting in a 20-point second period.
Grbac engineered a nine-play, 78-yard drive. The drive was aided by a 35-yard interference penalty on cornerback Jeff Burris that moved the ball to the Colts seven.
Two plays after the penalty, Grbac found fullback Obafemi Ayanbadejo in the left flat for a five-yard touchdown pass, giving the Ravens a 10-3 lead just 1:29 into the quarter.
But Burris redeemed himself later in the quarter, stepping in front of Grbac's pass along the right sideline and returning it 30 yards for a touchdown to tie the game.
Baltimore had a chance to take the lead on its next possession affter moving to the Colts' two. But Williams fumbled and defensive end Chuckie Nwokorie recovered in the end zone. Williams had just 17 yards on 14 carries in the half before coming alive over the final 30 minutes.
But with a chance to go into the locker room tied, the Colts unraveled in the waning moments of the half.
Scrambling out of the pocket, Manning was stripped of the ball by defensive end Adalius Thomas and linebacker Shannon Taylor recovered for Baltimore at the Colts' 35.
Grbac found Williams for 14 yards inside the 10. But the drive stalled and Matt Stover kicked a 30-yard field goal with 60 seconds left in the half, giving the Colts a 13-10 lead.
It did not take long for the Colts to commit another miscue when running back Dominic Rhodes fumbled and Ray Lewis recovered for the Ravens at the Indianapolis 33.
Lewis, the MVP of Super Bowl XXXV, had a huge game with 18 tackles, a sack and the fumble recovery.
Grbac had completions of 13 and 10 yards on the short drive that resulted in Stover's 29-yard field goal with five seconds left in the half for a 16-10 advantage.
The break at halftime did not help the Colts, who turned the ball over for the third straight time on the first play of the second half.
Rhodes plowed over the right side, but safety Corey Harris ripped the ball out of his arms and returned it eight yards to the Colts 15.
But despite starting deep in Indianapolis territory, the Ravens managed only Stover's 27-yard field goal.
The Colts got a big play out of their defense after tight end Shannon Sharpe fumbled and Chad Cota recovered and returned the ball eight yards to Ravens' 10.
With a short field to work with, the Colts could not move in for a touchdown and Mike Vanderjagt kicked a 25-yard field goal, brining the Colts within 19-13 with 5:54 left in the quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff, Jermaine Lewis broke down the left sideline and appeared to be headed for a touchdown. But at the Indianapolis 25, he was caught from behind by Clifton Crosby, who punched the ball out. The ball popped into air and rolled in the end zone, where Nick Harper recovered for Indianapolis.
Sparked by that play, the Colts' offense went work. Manning needed just four plays before finding tight end Marcus Pollard over the middle for a 40-yard touchdown, to give the Colts a 20-19 lead with 3:54 left in the period.
Less than two minutes later, the Ravens reclaimed the lead. Williams broke off a 55-yard run to the Colts' nine, and on the next play, Ayanbadejo ran nine yards for a touchdown.
Manning provided the final fireworks of the quarter, finding Harrison over the middle for a 57-yard touchdown, giving the Colts a 27-26 lead. Harrison had five catches for 89 yards.
Grbac gave the Ravens the lead for good 1:31 into the fourth quarter, finding Qadry Ismail with a five-yard touchdown for a 32-27 lead.
Ismail finished with seven catches for 78 yards. The speedster became the Ravens' all-time leading receiver with 2,678 yards, surpassing Michael Jackson's mark of 2,596.
