Michael Jordan to have knees examined

WASHINGTON, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- The Washington Wizards announced after Saturday night's loss to the Orlando Magic that Michael Jordan will go to Chicago Sunday to have his aching knees examined by the former team physician of the Chicago Bulls.

Jordan scored just 15 points Saturday night. He missed nine of his last 10 shots and sat out the final 3:50 with the game still somewhat in the balance.

According to the Wizards, Jordan, 38, is bothered by tendinitis in both knees but primarily the right knee.

Perhaps the greatest player in NBA history, Jordan returned to the court this season after a three-year hiatus. He came into Saturday's contest sixth in the league at 25.5 points per game and was carrying the offensive load for the Wizards, who are just 5-11.

That apparently has taken its toll. Jordan had been averaging 38 minutes per game, far more than he or coach Doug Collins anticipated.

While contemplating a comeback during the summer, Jordan dealt with bruised ribs and a handful of other physical setbacks suffered during scrimmage workouts with NBA players in Chicago.
