Edmonton 3, Los Angeles 1

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Tommy Salo made 17 saves and Eric Brewer and Jochen Hecht scored power-play goals as the Edmonton Oilers held on for a 3-1 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings Thursday night.

Salo played just under 45 minutes of shutout hockey and stopped two point-blank shots by Ziggy Palffy in the third period to preserve the win.

Eric Belanger spoiled the shutout bid with 5:16 left on a power-play goal. He skated in from center ice, split two defenders and lifted the puck over Salo's shoulder for his fifth goal.

Brewer opened the scoring just 2:09 into the first period with his third goal.

Hecht doubled the Oilers lead with the eventual game-winner nine minutes into the second. Jamie Storr stopped defenseman Janne Niinimaa's slap shot from the left point, but Hecht pulled the puck from under Storr's pads and poked it around the goaltender's glove.

Storr made 27 saves in his third straight start but had a personal two-game winning streak stopped.

Other than Belanger's goal, the Kings struggled to generate offense, converting just 1-of-8 power-play chances, including a four-minute advantage in the first period. They were held to one shot in the second period.
