Chambers, Bell NFL rookies of month

NEW YORK, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers and Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Kendrell Bell were named NFL offensive and defensive rookies of the month for November Thursday.

A second-round pick out of Wisconsin, Chambers had 14 receptions for 293 yards and four touchdowns as the Dolphins posted a 3-1 record during the month. Chambers came up big in last Sunday's 34-27 victory at Buffalo, catching a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including a 32-yarder with 48 seconds remaining that snapped a tie.

Bell, selected 13 picks ahead of Chambers in the second round, collected 23 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble as the Steelers went 3-1 in the month. Bell, who played collegiately at Georgia, has emerged as a force on a Steelers defense that yielded only five touchdowns and 61 points in November. At 8-2, Pittsburgh is tied with Oakland, Chicago, San Francisco and St. Louis as the NFL's best record.

Others considered for the offensive award were Atlanta tight end Alge Crumpler, Washington wide receiver Rod Gardner, San Francisco tight end Eric Johnson, Philadelphia wide receiver Freddie Mitchell and New Orleans wide receiver Eddie "Boo" Williams.
