Murray reaches 1,000-game plateau

ANAHEIM, Calif. Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Bryan Murray notched his 1,000th career game as an NHL head coach Wednesday night when his Mighty Ducks of Anaheim hosted Edmonton.

Murray, 58, joins Detroit's Scotty Bowman and Pat Quinn of Toronto as the only active coaches in the league with 1,000 games under their belt. A total of seven coaches have reached that plateau.

With a 492-382-126 career record, Murray is eighth on the NHL all-time win list.

But, his first year at Anaheim has been a bumpy ride so far as the Ducks went into Wednesday night's game at 7-14-3 and last in the Pacific Division. They snapped a nine-game winless streak on Sunday by holding off the New York Rangers 3-2.
