Lakers activate two players

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 25 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Lakers added two members of last season's championship team Sunday, activating guard Derek Fisher and forward Mark Madsen from the injured list.

Fisher returned from a broken foot for the second consecutive season. Madsen had shoulder surgery over the summer and also was hampered by an abdominal strain.

During last season's playoffs, Fisher suffered a stress fracture in his right foot. He played through the injury as the Lakers won their second straight title but underwent surgery during the summer. He is entering his sixth season, all with the Lakers.

The 6-1 point guard originally had surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot on Sept. 20, 2000 and missed the first 62 games of the season. When he returned in March, he provided the Lakers with a much-needed third option and speed in the backcourt.

Fisher was the Lakers' third-highest scorer in the postseason behind Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant, averaging 13.4 points and shooting a remarkable 52 percent from three-point range.

Madsen, a 6-9 bruiser, was the Lakers' 2000 first-round pick and played 70 games as a rookie, averaging 2.0 points and 2.2 rebounds.

The Lakers, who have won 11 of their first 12 games, cleared roster room for Fisher and Madsen by waiving rookie guard Joe Crispin and placing forward Jelani McCoy on the injured list with a bone bruise in his right foot.
