ENGLEWOOD, Conn., Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Denver Broncos running back Olandis Gary suffered a broken left leg in Thursday's game at Dallas and will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced Friday.
The Broncos began the season with a logjam in the backfield with Terrell Davis, Mike Anderson and Gary. But Davis has missed five games with knee injuries and recently underwent arthroscopic
surgery. And now Gary has had a season cut short by injury for the second straight year.
Gary broke a bone in his lower left leg on a nine-yard run in the first quarter of Thursday's 26-24 win over Dallas. He suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in the 2000 season opener after rushing for 1,159 yards as a rookie in 1999.
The Broncos (6-5) trail the first-place Oakland Raiders (7-2) in the AFC West.
Davis may be ready to return for Denver's next game Dec. 2 at Miami after missing the last two games following surgery on his left knee on Nov. 12.
Anderson, who rushed for 1,487 yards and 15 touchdowns as a rookie last year, is the team's leading rusher with 614 yards. Davis has rushed for 254 yards in six games and Gary had 228 yards on 57 carries.
