KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 22 (UPI) -- Clarence Gilbert made one of two free throws with eight-tenths of a second remaining Wednesday night as the ninth-ranked Missouri Tigers rallied for a 78-77 triumph over No. 8 Iowa in the championship game of the inaugural Guardians Classic.

With the score tied, Iowa's Glen Worley missed a short jumper with six seconds left. Gilbert tracked down the rebound, glanced up at the clock and raced downcourt before missing a desperation shot from just inside the three-point arc.

He drew a foul, missed the first free throw and made the second to give the Tigers (4-0) their first lead of the night.

Gilbert scored 27 points and Wesley Stokes added 17 for Missouri, which dropped a 99-94 double-overtime decision to Iowa last December.

Reggie Evans had 21 points and Luke Recker chipped in 17 for the Hawkeyes (4-1), who squandered an 11-point lead in the final 2:20.

The teams meet again on Dec. 15 on Missouri's home court.
