DALLAS, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- Bates Battaglia scored with 1:50 left Wednesday night as the Carolina Hurricanes overcame a pair of third-period deficits and rallied for a 4-4 tie with the Dallas Stars, who have just two wins in their last 10 home games.
Dallas completed a pair of trades during the game, sending forwards Donald Audette and Shaun Van Allen to the Montreal Canadiens for left wings Martin Rucinsky and Benoit Brunet and dealing Jyrki Lumme to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Dave Manson in a swap of defensemen.
But the Stars could not hold on in the third period, moving to 2-4-2-2 in the last 10 games in their new building, where they won all five preseason contests and the first two regular-season games.
Brenden Morrow scored on a deflection with 3:49 left to give Dallas a 4-3 lead.
But Battaglia got to a loose puck in the low slot and whipped it past goaltender Ed Belfour for his third goal of the season and second in the last five games.
Tom Barrasso preserved the tie early in overtime when he stopped Joe Nieuwendyk on a breakaway. He finished with 34 saves and is unbeaten in five of his last six games (2-1-3).
