OXFORD, Miss., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Verron Haynes rushed for a career-high 192 yards and two touchdowns Saturday, leading Georgia to a 35-15 Southeastern Conference victory over Mississippi.
The fullback picked up the slack in the absence of Musa Smith, Georgia's leading rusher who missed the game due to the lingering affects of a hip flexor.
Haynes more than doubled his total for the season as he came into the game with just 170 yards on 37 carries.
The result also allowed Auburn to clinch its second straight SEC West title.
Haynes opened the scoring with a 13-yard run six minutes into the contest, then gave Georgia (6-3, 5-3 SEC East) a 35-9 lead with a 26-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.
Mississippi (6-3, 3-3 West) went up, 9-7, on Eli Manning's nine-yard pass to Jason Armstead and Lee Rogers' 37-yard field goal with 1:22 left in the first half.
But Georgia took the lead for good on Jasper Sanks' one-yard run with 11:16 left in the third and made it 21-9 on David Greene's nine-yard pass to Terrence Edwards with 4:06 to go in the quarter.
The Bulldogs began to pull away as cornerback Jermaine Phillips' 82-yard interception return gave Georgia a 28-9 cushion 1 1/2 minutes into the fourth quarter.
Greene completed eight of 14 passes for 93 yards and two interceptions as the Bulldogs did most of their damage on the ground, outrushing Mississippi, 268-28.
Manning completed 35 of 47 passes for 232 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.
Georgia snapped a two-game losing streak while Mississippi suffered its second straight loss.
The Bulldogs increased their lead in the all-time series to 27-12-1.
