Texas point guard injured

AUSTIN, Texas, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Texas guard Fredie Williams will be out for approximately six weeks after suffering a sprained MCL in his left knee.

Williams suffered the injury in the second half of the No. 22 Longhorns' 91-73 exhibition victory over the EA Sports All-Stars Tuesday night after scoring 17 points in 23 minutes.

"Testing revealed a sprained MCL in Fredie's left knee but was inconclusive as to any ACL damage," trainer Brian Farr said. "He will undergo further testing tomorrow (Thursday) to determine if there is an injury to the ACL."

Williams came off the bench for Texas last season, averaging 3.7 points and 2.1 assists. He was named the team's Most Outstanding Defensive Player last year and collected 34 assists and 16 steals over the Longhorns' last 10 games. He started both exhibition games this year.

"Fredie is a big part of this team and he will obviously continue to be a big part of it," Texas coach Rick Barnes said. "I hate this for him because he has worked so hard to prepare for this season and done everything that you want one of your senior leaders to do for the team."
