Maryland 82, Temple 74

COLLEGE PARK, Md., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Juan Dixon scored 25 points Friday night as the third-ranked Maryland Terrapins bounced back from a disappointing season opener with an 82-74 victory over No. 17 Temple in the consolation game of the Coaches vs. Cancer Ikon Classic.

After Arizona used its matchup zone to stifle Maryland in a 71-67 upset Thursday, the Terrapins made the necessary adjustments against Temple's famed defense. They shot 62.5 percent in the first half and made nine 3-pointers for the game.

Maryland closed the first half with a 14-2 run for a 39-32 edge behind three 3-pointers from Dixon.

Temple climbed within 61-58 with 4:20 to go on a follow shot by Kevin Lyde before the Terrapins ran off eight straight points for an 11-point bulge with 2:12 left. Byron Mouton and Steve Blake each had 3-pointers in the run.

Blake scored 15 of his 20 points in the second half as he bounced back from a 2-of-10 shooting performance on Thursday. Mouton added 13 points.

Lynn Greer fouled out with 27 points for Temple, including three 3-pointers in the final 35 seconds that almost rallied the Owls. Lyde chipped in 13 as Temple fell to 0-2 for only the second time since 1940.
