USC 16, Oregon St. 13 (OT)

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Carson Palmer scored on a four-yard run in overtime Saturday to give Southern California a 16-13 Pac-10 Conference victory over Oregon State.

Oregon State lost the toss and had the first possession in the extra session, but settled for a 29-yard field goal from Ryan Cesca and a 13-10 lead.

Southern California (4-5, 3-3 Pac-10) needed seven plays to earn the victory, capped by Palmer's first rushing touchdown of the season.

The Trojans took the lead when Steve Stevenson recovered a blocked a punt in the end zone for a 7-0 edge in the first quarter.

USC held a 10-3 lead before Oregon State (3-5, 2-4) embarked on a 13-play, 96-yard drive to tie the game on a four-yard touchdown pass from Jonathan Smith to running back Steven Jackson with 1:36 left in the third quarter.

Palmer was 21 of 28 for 171 yards and one interception. He was sacked six times for losses totaling 40 yards.

Smith completed 20 of 33 passes for 203 yards and was intercepted once. Jackson carried 16 times for 119 yards as Oregon State outgained the Trojans, 384 yards to 204.

The Trojans have won 27 of the last 28 meetings between the schools.
