ST. LOUIS, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Pavol Demitra and Doug Weight scored 83 seconds apart to spark a three-goal third period Saturday night as the St. Louis Blues extended their unbeaten streak against the Washington Capitals to six games with a 4-1 victory.
Demitra broke a 1-1 tie with 11:08 remaining, finishing a brilliant three-way passing play with his team-best ninth goal. Keith Tkachuk carried into the Capitals' zone and dished to Daniel Corson on the left side. Corson whipped a cross-ice pass to Demitra, who snapped a wrist shot from the right faceoff dot into the top right corner of the net.
Less than two minutes later, Weight was outnumbered as he carried into the Washington zone. But he veered outside defenseman Brendan Witt and flicked a shot from the bottom of the right circle between goaltender Olaf Kolzig's pads for his fifth goal.
Keith Tkachuk, who picked up a pair of assists, beat Kolzig from the right dot with 2:16 left to cap the scoring.
Brent Johnson made 22 saves, helping the Blues improve to 5
1 against the Capitals since Dec. 29, 1997.
