Indiana 117, Orlando 107

INDIANAPOLIS, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Jalen Rose starred for the second time this season, scoring all of his 24 points after halftime Friday night while clamping down on Tracy McGrady as the Indiana Pacers posted a 117-107 victory over the Orlando Magic.

McGrady (three of 10) and fellow All-Star Grant Hill (four of 12) both were held in check as the Pacers won their home opener by grabbing the lead late in the first quarter and holding off the Magic thereafter.

Rose, who scored a career-high 43 points in a season-opening loss at New Jersey, made nine of 16 shots, all five of his three-pointers and added six assists, seven rebounds and three steals to lead Indiana's balanced attack.

Nine players saw action for Isiah Thomas' squad and seven scored in double figures. Jermaine O'Neal had 17 points, Al Harrington contributed 16 and rookie Jamaal Tinsley added 10 and 10 assists.

The Pacers scored 39 points in the opening 12 minutes, led by eight at halftime and nine after three periods. Early in the fourth quarter, Travis Best made a three-pointer that gave Indiana its biggest lead at 92-79.

Orlando, which fell to 1-1, twice fought within six points late in the game. A 20-foot jumper by Darrell Armstrong made it 109-103 with just over two minutes remaining.

But Tinsley responded with a 20-footer, Rose forced McGrady into a turnover and O'Neal's layup with 1:15 left all but sealed the outcome.
