BUFFALO, N.Y., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Shane Doan got the tying goal early in the third period and Claude Lemieux scored with 9:41 to play Tuesday night as the Phoenix Coyotes rallied for a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.
The Coyotes' franchise was just 2-20-5 all-time in Buffalo before last season, when Doan collected two goals and two assists in a 7-3 rout on February 23. Doan had a goal and an assist on Tuesday as Phoenix made it two in a row at HSBC Arena.
With 16:34 remaining, Doan took a drop pass from Daniel Briere and blasted a slap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle inside the far goalpost for his second goal of the season and first in eight games.
Just under seven minutes later, Sabres goaltender Martin Biron made a spectacular stop on Lemieux after Sergei Berezin centered from the left side. But Biron lost his stick and Lemieux swept in the loose puck for his third goal.
Sean Burke made it stand up with 24 saves, stopping all 13 shots he faced in the third period.
Phoenix defenseman Ossi Vaananen was penalized with 93 seconds left for taking down Stu Barnes, giving Buffalo its third power play. But Burke stopped Miroslav Satan's drive from the right circle and Tim Connolly from close range in the final minute.
Maxim Afinogenov and Curtis Brown scored for the Sabres, who have lost three straight.
