NEW YORK, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- The New York Knicks placed Marcus Camby on the injured list Monday with plantar fasciatis in his left foot, meaning the team's only talented big man will miss at least five games, including Tuesday's season opener with Michael Jordan and the Washington Wizards.
Camby did not play in the preseason and the Knicks likely will start 11-year veteran Felton Spencer in the middle against Washington at Madison Square Garden.
The 6-11 Camby was third on the Knicks in scoring last season at 12.1 points per game and led the team with 11.5 rebounds per contest.
Camby is entering his fourth season with New York and is expected to do the bulk of the work in the lane on a team whose small lineup features guards Latrell Sprewell and Allan Houston and 6-6 forward Shandon Anderson.
Offseason acquisition Clarence Weatherspoon is a 6-7 forward.
