Ravens' Searcy out for season

OWINGS MILLS, Md., Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Baltimore Ravens veteran tackle Leon Searcy suffered a partial re-rupture of his triceps tendon this week and will miss the rest of the season, it was announced Friday.

The Ravens placed Searcy on injured reserve and signed kicker Danny Kight.

Kight will handle kickoff duties for Baltimore's game against Jacksonville on Sunday. Regular kicker Matt Stover has a strained quadriceps that has affected his distance on kickoffs.

Searcy signed as a free agent with the Ravens in the offseason and was expected to start at right tackle, but suffered a torn left triceps muscle during the club's first intrasquad scrimmage and underwent surgery.

With Searcy slated to miss six weeks, the Ravens signed veteran tackle Erik Williams, but had been starting third-year player Sammy Williams on the right side.

Searcy, 31, spent all of last year on injured reserve with a torn right quadriceps tendon after earning a spot in the Pro Bowl for the Jacksonville Jaguars following the 1999 season. He was released by the Jaguars on March 1 and signed a six-year contract with Baltimore less than two weeks later.

Searcy had started all but one game at right tackle since signing with Jacksonville as a free agent in 1996. He spent his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kight, 30, handled kickoff duty for the Indianapolis Colts last season. He had 13 touchbacks on 85 kickoffs in the regular season.
