Boston 2, Toronto 1 (OT)

BOSTON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Joe Thornton scored 12 seconds into overtime Thursday night as the Boston Bruins remained unbeaten at the FleetCenter with a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, gaining a split of their home-and-home series.

Just after Toronto defenseman Bryan McCabe got out of the penalty box, Sergei Samsonov carried the puck into the Maple Leafs zone, where he left a drop pass for Thornton in the right faceoff circle.

Thornton skated toward the net and flipped a shot that hit goaltender Corey Schwab's chest. The rebound fell to the ice and Thornton followed his shot and poked the puck between Schwab's pads for his fourth goal.

Byron Dafoe made 16 saves as Boston rebounded from Tuesday's 2-0 loss at Toronto and improved to 4

0 at home.

Center Jozef Stumpel and right wing Mikko Eloranta both played on a line with left wing Bill Guerin and generated plenty of chances as the Bruins outshot the Maple Leafs, 32-17.

Stumpel and Eloranta are starting their second stints with Boston after being acquired from the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday for holdout center Jason Allison and right wing Glen Murray.
