LA Clippers 105, Phoenix 97

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Elton Brand had 24 points and eight rebounds and Corey Maggette scored nine of his 11 points in the final six minutes as the Los Angeles Clippers posted a 105-97 victory over the Phoenix Suns in an exhibition matchup Tuesday night.

Brand made 11-of-17 shots from the floor but the outcome was decided by Maggette, who sank 4-of-6 shots down the stretch to help the Clippers pull away.

Los Angeles took the lead for good, 83-82, on a jumper by Brand with 9:32 remaining. Brand followed with a dunk and the Clippers had a three-point lead when Maggette entered and led them to a fifth consecutive victory.

Quentin Richardson scored nine of his 20 points in the final period, grabbed seven rebounds and had three blocks for Los Angeles.

Lamar Odom had 13 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds and Eric Piatkowski added 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting for the Clippers, who shot 51 percent (42-of-83) from the field and made 5-of-11 3-pointers.

Michael Olowokandi chipped in six points and eight rebounds for Los Angeles (5-2), which held a 51-26 rebounding edge.

Tom Gugliotta scored 19 points for Phoenix and Shawn Marion had 15 points and six rebounds. Penny Hardaway also scored 15 points and John Wallace added 14 off the bench.

Stephon Marbury had 13 points and seven assists and Rodney Rogers contributed 12 points and six rebounds for the Suns(4-2).

Dan Majerle was sidelined with a broken finger and Jake Tsakalidis did not play due to chest pains. Second-round draft pick Alton Ford did not score in nine minutes and rookie Charlie Bell sat out with a sprained right ankle.
