Sacramento 109, LA Lakers 104

LAS VEGAS, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Peja Stojakovic led a balanced attack with 29 points and eight rebounds Saturday night as the Sacramento Kings held off the Los Angeles Lakers, 109-104, in an exhibition game.

Reserve guard Bobby Jackson shot just 4-for-13 from the floor but made 7-of-11 free throws for 17 points. As a team, the Kings shot 40.5 percent (32-for-79) and converted 40-of-51 free throws.

Mike Bibby, acquired from the Memphis Grizzlies in a four-player deal, contributed 15 points for Sacramento. Doug Christie added 14 and seven rebounds and Laurence Funderburke had 13 and 10.

The Kings (3-3), who played without injured star forward Chris Webber, battled for the Pacific Division title with the Lakers and squared off in the Western Conference Semifinals. Each time Sacramento came up short, finishing one game out of first place in the division and being swept in four games in the playoffs.

Kobe Bryant again was the best player for the two-time defending NBA champion Lakers (1-4), leading his team for the fourth time in five games with 30 points and seven rebounds. He was 11-for-18 from the field, including 4-for-5 from 3-point range.

Shaquille O'Neal continues to get back in shape after offseason toe surgery with 21 points and 10 rebounds.

Robert Horry had eight points and eight rebounds for Los Angeles, which had 14 players score.
