Minnesota 93, Milwaukee 74

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Felipe Lopez scored 16 points and led a decisive second-quarter surge Saturday night as the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the shorthanded Milwaukee Bucks, 93-74.

Lopez scored five points in an 11-0 run that turned a one-point deficit into a 38-28 lead with 1:07 left in the first half. He came off the bench to make seven of nine shots.

Kevin Garnett had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Joe Smith added 10 and 11 for the Timberwolves (4-1), who shot 47 percent from the field. Wally Szczerbiak scored 12 points and Gary Trent added 11.

The Bucks played without starters Glenn Robinson, Sam Cassell, Darvin Ham and Scott Williams and reserve forward Tim Thomas. Cassell was rested, but the other four players are nursing minor injuries.

Michael Redd scored 24 points and Ray Allen contributed 22 for Milwaukee, which shot less than 30 percent and trailed by as many as 21 points.
