EDMONTON, Alberta, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Anson Carter scored twice and sparked a big third period Satuday night to lead the Edmonton Oilers to a 6-2 victory over of the Florida Panthers.

Carter scored the go-ahead goal 4:24 into the final period. After Ryan Smyth drove a puck toward the slot, Carter fired a slap shot that beat goaltender Trevor Kidd to the glove side.

The Oilers opened a two-goal lead just over two minutes later on Georges Laraque's wrist shot from the front of the net. They made it 5-2 just 51 seconds later when Jason Wiemer tried to outmuscle Laraque in front of the net and ended up crashing into Kidd. The collision trapped the goalie and enabled Todd Marchant to flip the puck into the net for an easy score.

Daniel Cleary beat Kidd on a shorthanded breakaway with 1:55 remaining to cap the scoring.

Ty Conklin made 23 saves in his first NHL start for Edmonton, which is unbeaten in seven of its last eight games (6-1-1).

Edmonton took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Mike Comrie and Carter. But the Panthers turned the tide in the second, scoring twice to tie it while holding the Oilers without a shot.

Defenseman Robert Svehla got Florida on the board at 4:53, firing aa wrist shot that hit Oilers defenseman Eric Brewer in the back of the leg and got by Conklin's glove.

The Panthers tied it 6 ½ minutes later on defenseman Paul Laus' first goal of the season. He picked up a rebound in the right faceoff circle and slipped a wrister under Conklin's arm.

The Panthers concluded an 0-2-1 western Canada road trip and are winless in their five games (0-4-1).
