TRENTON, N.J., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Coach Larry Brown and center Dikembe Mutombo were both kicked out of the game Saturday night as the banged-up, winless Philadelphia 76ers picked up nine technical fouls in a 96-86 loss to the Utah Jazz.
Philadelphia is the only team that has yet to win a preseason game. Brown already has called this training camp "a total waste of time."
In addition to the two technicals each on Brown and Mutombo, the defending Eastern Conference champions were called for five defensive three-second violations. Five technicals came in an 82-second span of the third quarter.
After a thunderous follow dunk by 5-11 rookie guard Speedy Claxton pulled the Sixers (0-5) within 60-56 with 3:49 left, Philadelphia was called for an illegal defense 15 seconds later.
At the 2:47 mark, Mutombo received his second technical and was ejected and Brown picked up two and was tossed for the second time in the preseason. The Sixers were whistled for another defensive violation 35 seconds later.
Raja Bell scored 23 points and Claxton added 21 and 12 assists in a fun duel with veteran John Stockton for the Sixers, who played without the injured Allen Iverson, Aaron McKie, Eric Snow, George Lynch, Matt Harpring and Matt Geiger.
Stockton had 20 points and 11 assists and Donyell Marshall and rookie Andrei Kirilenko scored 13 points each for the Jazz, who were without star forward Karl Malone.
The teams combined for 63 fouls and 80 free throws. The Jazz (4-1) never trailed after the Sixers opened a 4-2 lead as Stockton scored the first five points in a 13-2 burst.
