The Mighty Ducks had an opportunity in overtime to take their third win of the season, but goalie John Grahame managed a pad save on Jeff Freisen's breakaway attempt with 13 seconds to go. Grahame made 29 saves in his first appearance of the season.

Boston's best opportunity to claim their first win in four games came midway through the extra period when Bill Guerin broke free from the defense and fired a point-blank shot. Shields, who finished with 39 saves, dove across the crease to make a blocker save and preserve the tie.

After a 3-0 start, the Bruins are winless in their last four games, recording two losses and two ties.
