Utah 85, New York 80

SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- John Stockton scored 13 points and Bryon Russell added 12 as the Utah Jazz posted an 85-80 exhibition triumph over the New York Knicks Tuesday night.

Stockton made just 2-of-4 shots from the floor but sank all nine free-throw attempts. Russell was 4-of-6 from the floor and pulled down six rebounds.

The Knicks had a 51-49 lead in the third quarter when Russell made a pair of free throws to tie it with 3:56 remaining. After a New York miss, John Amaechi made 1-of-2 free throws to put Utah ahead for good.

The Jazz closed the period on a 10-3 run and New York pulled within three points several times in the final quarter. Utah opened its largest lead, 73-64, with 5:04 remaining.

Amaechi finished with 11 points and Donyell Marshall added nine for the Jazz. Karl Malone had four points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes and Quincy Lewis scored eight points in just seven minutes.

First-round draft pick Jarron Collins had five points and three rebounds.

Othella Harrington had 15 points and three blocked shots for New York. He made 4-of-9 shots from floor and was 7-of-10 from the line.

Charlie Ward scored 14 points and Allen Houston added 12. Kurt Thomas had 11 points despite going just 3-of-11 from the field for New York, which shot just 34 percent (25-of-73).

Latrell Sprewell had seven points, seven rebounds and five assists but made just 2-of-11 shots.

The Knicks were without Marcus Camby, who remains sidelined with a sore left foot, and Clarence Weatherspoon, who was not with the team for personal reasons.
