Memphis 121, LA Clippers 113

MEMPHIS, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Jason Williams sparked a big first quarter Sunday as the Memphis Grizzlies jumped to an early lead and cruised to a 121-113 exhibition victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Williams scored 10 of his 23 points in the first period, when Memphis (2-0) shot 67 percent from the field and raced to a 41-24 advantage.

Michael Dickerson scored 28 points and Lorenzen Wright added 19 for the Grizzlies, who played their regulars for most of the game while the Clippers sat their starters for the final three periods.

Rookie rorward Pau Gasol, acquired from Atlanta in a draft-day trade, scored 11 points off the bench for Memphis. Fellow rookie Shane Battier started and had six points in 34 minutes.

Los Angeles' starters combined for 19 points. The Clippers (0-2) were led by 5-5 guard Earl Boykins, who scored 21 points, and second-year forward Darius Miles, who added 14 and eight rebounds.

The Grizzlies shot 56 percent and held the Clippers to 48 percent.
