St. Louis 5, Toronto 2

TORONTO, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Keith Tkachuk and Pavol Demitra each had a goal and an assist Saturday night as the St. Louis Blues lit up Curtis Joseph in a 5-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, their first win of the season.

Having gone 0-1-2 in their first three games, the Blues came out flying and scored the first four goals. Tkachuk started the onslaught at 5:35 of the first period and Demitra capped it with 6:35 remaining in the second.

Sergei Varlamov and Doug Weight scored in between as St. Louis took advantage of Joseph, who clearly was not himself. He was badly beaten on the tallies by Tkachuk and Varlamov and stopped just eight of 13 shots through the first two periods.

Cory Stillman had the other goal and Fred Brathwaite stopped 18 shots for the Blues, who ended a none-for-13 drought on the power play with Weight's second-period goal.

Bryan McCabe and Robert Reichel scored for Toronto, which had a two-game winning streak snapped.
