Louisiana Tech 45, Nevada 42

RENO, Nev., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Josh Scobee kicked a 30-yard field goal with five seconds remaining Saturday as Louisiana Tech outlasted Nevada, 45-42, in a Western Athletic Conference game.

Scobee's kick capped a wild affair in which each team scored six touchdowns and combined for more than 1,000 yards of offense.

Louisiana Tech overcame a spectacular effort by Nevada's Chance Kretschmer, who rushed for 242 yards and a touchdown on 30 carries.

But Luke McCown helped the Bulldogs overcome a 28-14 deficit by completing 27 of 43 passes for 407 yards and three touchdowns.

The contest was tied four times, the last at 42-42 when Nevada's David Neill scored on a 10-yard run with 1:27 remaining.

The Bulldogs (3-2, 3-1 WAC) answered by driving 58 yards in eight plays to set up Scobee's winning field goal.

Nevada (1-4, 1-1) opened a 28-14 lead on Kretschmer's three-yard run with 3:35 remaining in the first half. But the Bulldogs closed to within 28-21 on McCown's three-yard pass to John Simon with 1:09 left in the half.

McCown fired a 29-yard touchdown strike to Major Richmond and Joe Smith scored on a one-yard run to give Louisiana Tech a 35-28 lead with 4:37 left in the third.

Nevada tied it on Neill's five-yard scamper with 2:12 left in the third.

The Bulldogs went back ahead, 42-35, on McCown's 11-yard pass to Corey Berlin eight seconds into the final period.

Neill completed 19 of 24 passes for 196 yards for the Nevada. Smith rushed for 71 yards on 19 carries for Louisiana Tech, which was outgained on the ground, 321-105.
