Busch race postponed to Sunday

MILLINGTON, Tenn., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- A persistent rain Saturday forced NASCAR officials to postpone the Busch Grand National series Sam's Town 250 at Memphis Motorsports Park to Sunday.

Efforts to dry the track were in vain as the conditions and daylight would not permit the 250-lap race to start. The event was rescheduled for noon EDT Sunday, weather permitting.

Qualifying Friday also was canceled because of rain and high winds in the area.

The starting grid was determined on points standings, putting series leader Kevin Harvick in the top slot for the fifth time this year. Harvick will lead the 43-car field in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Jason Keller was on the outside of the front row in a Ford Taurus. He trails Harvick by 186 points with four races remaining.

Harvick decided to focus on the Busch championship and skipped qualifying and practices for Sunday's Winston Cup Old Dominion 500 in Martinsville, Va.
