Vancouver 4, Dallas 1

DALLAS, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Dan Cloutier made 38 saves and Trent Klatt scored twice Thursday night as the Vancouver Canucks handed the Dallas Stars their first loss in the new building, 4-1.

Dallas won all five preseason games at the American Airlines Center and defeated Nashville and Los Angeles in its first two home contests of the regular season. But Cloutier was virtually unbeatable for Vancouver, which ended a season-opening, three-game losing streak.

Cloutier stopped all 26 shots over the first two periods as the Canucks held onto a 1-0

lead.

After an electrical failure killed the lights and caused a 20-minute delay early in the third, Dallas tied it on Joe Nieuwendyk's power-play goal with 12:12 remaining.

But Klatt and Matt Cooke scored 31 seconds apart to put Vancouver ahead for good with 7 1/2 minutes left and Markus Naslund added an empty-net goal in the final minute.
