New York 90, New Jersey 85

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Allan Houston scored 18 points and Othella Harrington added 16 while making six of eights from the field Thursday night as the New York Knicks defeated the New Jersey Nets, 90-85.

Houston made seven of 13 shots overall and scored 14 points in the first three quarters as the Knicks recorded their first win of the exhibition season.

Harrington, starting his first full season with New York, played 23 minutes. He was acquired midway through last season from Vancouver.

Shandon Anderson, acquired in the offseason deal that sent Glen Rice to Houston, added 12 points, sinking three three-pointers. Latrell Sprewell added 10 points for the Knicks.

New Jersey (0-2) was led Todd MacCulloch and Jason Kidd, who scored 17 points apiece.

MacCulloch, who was signed as a free agent from Philadelphia, hit seven of nine and pulled down 10 rebounds in 25 minutes as he bounced back from a sub-par performance in the exhibition opener. Kidd, acquired in the offseason deal that sent Stephon Marbury to Phoenix, made six of 14 shots and handed out six assists.
