BILLINGS, Mont., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The first NBA exhibition game of the year turned out to be not much of one at all as the Minnesota Timberwolves never trailed in a 125-92 blowout of the Toronto Raptors.
The crowd of 10,102 at MetraPark was treated to some exciting moments from All-Stars Kevin Garnett of Minnesota and Vince Carter of Toronto. But the game was no contest as the Timberwolves outscored the Raptors by at least five points in every quarter.
Garnett had 21 points and 12 rebounds in 29 minutes. After hitting two of 10 shots from the field in the first half, he scored 14 points in the third quarter, which ended with Minnesota holding a 99-71 lead.
Carter had 17 points and three blocks. He had a handful of high-flying moves and also made a three-pointer.
Chauncey Billups scored 22 points and Felipe Lopez added 15 for the Wolves, who shot 52 percent from the field and held a 48-37 rebounding advantage.
Minnesota rookies Maurice Evans and Loren Woods scored 10 and six points, respectively.
Hakeem Olajuwon scored just two points in 19 minutes for the Raptors. Olajuwon was acquired from Houston during the offseason.
