KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Kansas City Royals righthander Mike MacDougal has a fractured skull after being hit in the head with a thrown bat on Thursday.

In the fourth inning of an 8-4 win over Cleveland, MacDougal was standing on the dugout steps when teammate Carlos Beltran lost control of his bat on a swing.

The bat hit MacDougal on the top of the head, knocking him to the floor. Although he never lost consciousness, MacDougal remained on the ground for several minutes before sitting up.

MacDougal eventually got to his feet and was taken to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a non-displaced skull fracture. CAT scans were negative, but MacDougal was held until Friday night.

MacDougal, 24, is 1-1 with a 4.70 ERA in three starts this season. He was 8-8 with a 4.68 ERA in 28 appearances for Class AAA Omaha before his promotion.
