BYU 54, Utah St. 34

PROVO, Utah, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- Luke Staley ran for 207 yards and four touchdowns and Brian Doman threw for 281 yards and four scores Friday night as No. 18 Brigham Young routed Utah State, 54-34, continuing their best start in 17 years.

Staley rushed for the most yards by a BYU running back since Ronney Jenkins had 250 against San Jose State in 1998. Staley scored three times in the third quarter and also caught four passes for 44 yards, returned a kickoff 49 yards and completed an 11-yard pass to Reno Mahe for a total of 311 yards of combined offense.

BYU rallied from a 27-21 halftime deficit and is off to its first 5-0 start since 1984. The Cougars won their fifth straight against Utah State to open a 39-33-3 lead in the all-time series.

Doman, who suffered a shoulder sprain in last week's victory over Nevada-Las Vegas, was 25 of 34 for 281 yards with one interception. The senior quarterback completed seven of eight passes for 110 yards and two scores in the fourth quarter.

Emmett White ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns for the Aggies (0-5), who had 141 yards in penalties.

BYU played the game Friday night due to a Mormon Church conference scheduled in Utah this weekend.
