PHOENIX, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Craig Counsell had two hits and drove in two runs and Reggie Sanders slugged his 33rd home run Thursday as the Arizona Diamondbacks inched closer to another National League West title with a 5-4 victory over the Colorado Rockies.
The win reduced to two their magic number for clinching a second division crown in three years.
Counsell delivered a two-run double to cap a four-run first inning and has hit safely in his last 25 starts.
Sanders belted a 1-1 pitch from Rockies starter Denny Neagle (9-8) over the center-field wall in the third to close the scoring for Arizona, which has won the last six meetings with Colorado at Bank One Ballpark.
Byung-Hyun Kim tossed a scoreless ninth for his 19th save in 23 chances.
Neagle surrendered five runs and nine hits in five innings and suffered his first loss in five starts since Aug. 30.
