Cameron snapped a fourth-inning tie with a three-run homer and thwarted a potential grand slam from Tim Salmon with an outstanding catch an inning later as Seattle won its 112th victory, three wins from breaking the 1998 New York Yankees' record.

With the score tied, 3-3, Jay Buhner doubled to lead off the fourth. Two outs later, Stan Javier hit a single and Cameron hit an 0-2 pitch from Anaheim starter Jarrod Washburn (11-10) over the left-center field wall for his 25th home run.

A run-scoring double by Dan Wilson gave the Mariners a 7-3 lead in the fifth. In the bottom of the inning, after the Angels had loaded the bases, Salmon hit a fly ball to deep center field but Cameron jumped high above the fence to snag the potential tying homer before it went over.

Seattle put the game out of reach with five runs in the sixth.
