June 26 (UPI) -- Solange took home the Centric Award Sunday during the 2017 BET Awards and thanked her family and other artists who came before her during her acceptance speech.

"I wanna thank the universe for allowing this moment right here and my wonderful family and friends who have uplifted me," the singer said onstage.

"I just want to thank BET for my teenage years, giving me images of queens like Missy Elliot and Lil' Kim and Aaliyah and Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill and Kelis and Reese," she continued. "And showing me those images and letting me know that the sky's the limit."

"It's the best birthday ever," Solange added as she turned 31 on Saturday.

The Centric Award, which recognizes neo soul and traditional R&B artists, was given to Solange for her song "Cranes in the Sky" from her third album, A Seat at the Table.

Solange was also nominated for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Video of the Year for "Cranes in the Sky" and Album of the Year for A Seat at the Table.
