SSCI to develop 3-D tech for UAVs

WOBURN, Mass., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force has contracted Scientific Systems Co. to support surveillance systems with the development of three-dimensional imaging technologies.

Massachusetts-based SSCI has received a $750,000 Small Business Investment Research grant as part of an effort by the Air Force to advance unmanned aerial vehicle surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities.

As part of the grant SSCI will develop high-quality 3-D imaging technologies for use in UAV operations in hostile military theater environments.

"Our technology platform provides the brains and nervous systems for unmanned vehicles to operate autonomously and accomplish their missions flawlessly," Raman Mehra, SSCI chief executive officer, said in a statement.

"Being selected for this critical U.S. Air Force development program underscores the importance of the technologies SSCI is developing."
