SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., July 28 (UPI) -- U.S. company Taser International Inc. has launched a next-generation hand-held electronic control device designed to fire multiple cartridges without reloading.
Taser announced the release of its X3 electronic control device product line at a company conference in Arizona. Officials say the X3 is uses a Pulse Calibration System that allows the device to fire three cartridges without reloading.
The Pulse Calibration System is designed to monitor the device's electrical output to ensure the X3 is calibrated in order to achieve multiple firing capabilities.
"While our flagship Taser X26 is recognized as the leading law enforcement tool to deliver a less-lethal response to resistance, it is limited by being only a single-shot system," Rick Smith, Taser International chief executive officer, said in a statement.
"Developing a multiple-shot capability makes sense to increase officer safety through the ability to recover from a missed shot or even simultaneously stop up to three separate targets."
