EL SEGUNDO, Calif., July 27 (UPI) -- Northrop Grumman says its virtual technologies are supporting a U.S. military joint exercise designed to demonstrate reconnaissance information sharing.
U.S. company Northrop Grumman says its Cyber Warfare Integration Network unit has built the virtual, human-in-the-loop war simulation technology that generates virtual battlefield environments used to support the Empire Challenge 09 being executed by the U.S. Joint Forces Command.
Northrop Grumman says the Air Force's RQ-4 Global Hawk unmanned aircraft reconnaissance system and E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System among other technologies are also involved in the exercise.
The Empire Challenge, taking place through Friday, is part of an effort to demonstrate reconnaissance information sharing capabilities between U.S. forces and partner countries.
According to a news release, lessons learned from the exercise "will be used in ongoing work under a three-year cooperative research agreement between (the) Joint Forces Command and Northrop Grumman."
"Empire Challenge is an example of how Northrop Grumman works closely with warfighters to gain a better understanding of their current and future challenges," Paul Meyer, vice president and general manager of Advanced Programs and Technology for Northrop Grumman's Aerospace Systems sector, said in a statement.
"What we learn helps us apply technologies and improved applications to develop better architecture solutions that can meet those challenges."
