DARPA names new deputy director

WASHINGTON, July 27 (UPI) -- The U.S. Defense Department's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency announced the appointment of a new deputy director.

DARPA announced it has named Ken Gabriel to the agency's deputy director position. Gabriel, a former director of DARPA's micro electro-mechanical systems program among other assignments, officially took over the position July 21, according to a recent announcement.

Gabriel most recently work at fabless semiconductor company Akustica.

"The nation and DARPA will be well served with Ken Gabriel as deputy director," DARPA Director Regina Dugan said in a statement.

"His rare blending of experience in the private sector together with his past experience as a DARPA program manager and office director combine to make him a tremendous asset."
