Intevac receives order for LIVAR cameras

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 21 (UPI) -- California-based Intevac Photonics has been contracted to delivery its laser camera technologies to support military applications.

Intevac Photonics was awarded the deal from an undisclosed U.S.-based defense contractor. Under the approximately $20 million contract, Intevac Photonics will deliver its Laser Illuminated Viewing and Ranging M506 camera technologies.

Intevac Photonics says its LIVAR cameras are designed to support surveillance and long-range targeting among other military applications.

"We are very pleased to receive this production order, as it is a significant milestone in the application of our LIVAR camera in the precision targeting and identification market," Joe Pietras, Intevac Photonics executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement.

"The unique sensitivity of our LIVAR camera enables high definition imaging for long distances in both day and night conditions, which is vital in long-range target detection applications."
