MOORESTOWN, N.J., July 15 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy has contracted Lockheed Martin to conduct studies as part of a development effort for a new air and missile defense radar concept.
U.S. company Lockheed Martin was selected by the Navy to use its experience developing S-Band radar technologies to perform concept studies that include the evaluation of potential system configurations for the air and missile defense radar.
The AMDR, comprised of S-Band radar, X-Band radar and a radar suite controller, is a solid-state radar suite designed to counter future anti-ship and ballistic missile threats.
"AMDR will provide a scalable radar suite that will deliver enhanced capability against evolving threats for current and future ship platforms," Carl Bannar, Lockheed Martin Radar Systems vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
"Through our established partnership with the Navy, Lockheed Martin will build on our 30-year naval radar heritage to meet the challenging mission requirements envisioned for AMDR with an open, capable, and affordable system solution."
