CMMI, developed for sponsors that include the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the National Defense Industrial Association, is a recognized standard for product improvements and assessments, and is composed of appraisers from industry, government and the Carnegie Mellon University Software Engineering Institute.

"Our customers rely on us to deliver highly advanced information technology systems that are both innovative and rock-solid reliable," Mike Thomas, IS&GS-Intelligence president, said in a statement.

"Meeting that challenge starts with a mature and disciplined set of processes that help us manage all of the moving pieces in a major system development program. This rating demonstrates not only that we have the right processes in place, but also that we are continuously working to improve and innovate our processes to meet new and evolving challenges."
