POMPANO BEACH, Fla., July 8 (UPI) -- Cyclone Power Technologies Inc. has completed the first stage of a phase II project sponsored by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
U.S. company Cyclone announced its Small Business Innovation Research phase II project with Robotic Technology Inc. has completed its first stage. The Cyclone-RTI phase II project, sponsored by the DARPA Defense Sciences Office, is to develop a beta biomass engine system.
Cyclone says the first stage has successfully been completed following the coupling of its steam generator technology with a compact biomass furnace. Officials say the completed first stage is a critical advancement ahead of future system performance testing.
"We are excited and encouraged by Cyclone's progress," Robert Finkelstein, RTI president, said in a statement.
"Cyclone's technology is ideal for our robotic vehicle to perform a wide range of either military or civilian tasks. The potential commercial applications are enormous for biomass-powered equipment and vehicles."
